Homemade Osmanthus Syrup

A simple homemade Osmanthus Syrup recipe made with dried Osmanthus flower. This syrup has a golden yellow color.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup dried osmanthus flowers
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tbsp. lemon juice optional

Instructions

  • Wash the Osmanthus Flowers: choose hiqh quality dried osmanthus flowers and then soak them in clean water for around 5 minutes. Stir for a while. This can help to remove any stems or impurities. Transfer only the flowers out with a strainer and discard the bottom content.
  • Boil water to soak the flower: now the water to a boiling, turn off the fire then place in dried osmanthus flowers in. Don’t boil the flowers because cooked flower may release bitter taste.
  • After 10 minutes, strain the liquid out. Now we have a cup of Osmanthus water.

Make the syrup

  • Transfer the water to a small pot, add sugar and lemon juice and bring it to a boiling again. Cook for around 10 minutes until it reaches a wanted thickness.
  • Then turn off the fire, let it cool down a little bit and add the flowers removed in the previous step (recommend only half the flowers). This is mainly for decorative purpose.
  • Your homemade osmanthus syrup is now ready to use in various recipes, including the osmanthus oolong tea with coconut milk and crystal boba! Enjoy!
