Have you ever fried Osmanthus syrup? A golden yellow, delightful, and aromatic sweetener made from golden blossoms of the Osmanthus flower.

It is extremely popular in Asian countries, and I love it because of its unique fragrance and golden color. When combined with tea liquid or milk tea, it will add a fabulous look to your drink.

In addition to milk tea, you can also use it in baking recipes like cake or pudding. It can also be a lovely drizzling ingredient for jellies.
Ingredients
- 1 cup dried osmanthus flowers: choose higher quality osmanthus flower with less stem
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 tbsp. Lemon juice optional
I always recommend adding lemon juice to syrup because it helps to remove any odd taste. The final syrup does not have a sour taste.
Instructions
Wash the Osmanthus Flowers: Choose high-quality dried osmanthus flowers and soak them in clean water for about 10 minutes. Stir for a while. This can help remove any stems or impurities. You will find lots of stem sink to the bottom. Transfer only the flowers out with a strainer and discard the bottom content.

Boil water to soak the flower: Bring the water to a boil, turn off the fire, and add dried osmanthus flowers. Don’t boil the flowers because cooked flowers may release a bitter taste. After 10 minutes, strain the liquid out. Now, we have a cup of Osmanthus water.

Make the syrup
- Transfer the water to a small pot, add sugar and lemon juice and bring it to a boiling again. Cook for around 10 minutes until it reaches a wanted thickness.
- Then turn off the fire, let it cool down a little bit and add the flowers removed in the previous step (recommend only half the flowers). This is mainly for decorative purpose.

Now our golden Osmanthus syrup is ready. Let’s make a simple Osmanthus milk tea. Rotate the syrup in the serving cup, then pour in Jasmine tea liquid and milk of choice. A simple, lovely Osmanthus milk tea is ready.
