A refreshing beverage with an earthy flavor, matcha green tea with the tart taste of lemonade- Matcha lemonade can be a good choice for summer. The lemonade component is usually made from freshly squeezed lemon juice, water, and a sweetener such as sugar, honey, or agave to balance the lemon’s acidity.
As a big matcha fan, matcha lemonade is my top choice. You can adjust the strength and sweetness of matcha. I love the sweet and sour base with the freshness of matcha green tea.
With only a few steps, we can make a cup of matcha lemonade tea at home.
Iced or Not
Although it can be served with ice or not, I recommend adding some ice cubes, making the beverage more refreshing.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup lemon juice
- ice cube
- 1/3 cup pure water
- 1 tbsp. syrup
- lemon slice
Matcha base
- 2 tbsp. matcha powder
- 1-2 tbsp. hot water
- 1 tbsp. white sugar (optional)
- 1/3 cup warm water
Instructions
Whisk the Matcha
Add the matcha powder to a measuring cup, then pour 1-2 tbsp. Hot water, whisk them until the matcha is perfectly blended, and turn into a slight paste state. After that, pour in the remaining 1/3 cup of warm water and whisk well, then add sugar and continue to whisk until there are a layer of fine bubbles on the top.
Tips about squeezing lemon juice
- Choose a lemon that feels heavy for its size, which usually indicates it has a lot of juice.
- Roll the lemon on the countertop, applying a bit of pressure with the palm of your hand. This helps to break down some of the fibers inside the lemon and makes it easier to juice.
- Using a sharp knife, slice the lemon in half crosswise, not from end to end. Then, you can either squeeze with your hands or a lemon squeezer.
- If you make a larger batch, you can store it in the fridge for several days.
Assemble
Add ice cubes to the serving glass, and decorate with three lemon slices into the glass.
Then pour in freshly squeezed lemon juice, syrup, and pure water, and finally, pour in the matcha liquid; this lovely green, refreshing drink is done.
