What’s Matcha
Matcha originated from Japan. Ground powdered green tea is made from specially grown and processed leaves. There are many matcha lovers because of its vibrant green color, refreshing taste, and health benefits.
Benefits of matcha
One reason matcha is so popular is that it is used in antioxidants, particularly catechins like EGCG, which are thought to have cancer-fighting properties.
Vitamins and minerals are another reason. It can also offer a sustained energy boost and improved focus because of L-theanine and caffeine.
Ingredients
- ice cube
- 1/3 cup milk of choice
Matcha liquid
- 2 tbsp. matcha powder
- 1 tbsp. white sugar
- 1-2 tbsp. hot water
- 1/3 cup warm water
How to make Iced Matcha Latte
Whisk the Matcha
- Add the matcha powder to a measuring cup, then pour in 1-2 tbsp. hot water, whisk them until the matcha is perfectly blended, and turn into a slight paste state.
- Add another 1/3 cup of warm water and sugar. Hold the chasen with one hand and the bowl with the other to keep it steady. Whisk the matcha and water briskly in a “W” or “M” shaped motion. We need to aerate the mixture until a layer of froth forms on the surface.
Assemble
Add ice cubes to the serving glass, and pour in milk and matcha liquid.

Milk Choice
Adding milk is a key step to make the matcha creamy and silkly. There is no direct restrictions about the choice of milk. You can use whole milk for a rice and creamy texture. Or low fat mil k for a skim texture.
Almond milk and coconut milk are the two best vegan choices for iced matcha latte. Coconut milk has a thicker a distinct coconut flavor that can add an interesting dimension to your iced matcha. While almond milk offers a nutty flavor and is lighter in texture than cow’s milk.
