What Is Strawberry Milk Tea?

As summer is in full swing, it gets hard to resist strawberry shake and when I combine it with tea and tapioca balls, I always have a blast.

Strawberry milk tea combines the tang of strawberries and the goodness of milk sometimes with the comfort of tea served over chewy tapioca pearls.

It is also called strawberry bubble or boba tea when boba pearls are added.

Its vibrant, pretty pink color with a fruity and creamy taste is what you need to forget all your worries in one sip.

If you are already a boba tea or milk tea lover, this strawberry drink will add nothing but more flavors to your mundane life, leaving you craving for more.

You can either use boba pearls or use smashed strawberries as a replace for boba pearls.

Origins And Popularity

Strawberry milk tea has come from Taiwan, an Asian country, where people started blending all the ingredients together and ended up creating this yummy drink. They named it “strawberry milk tea” as it perfectly describes its ingredients.

As more and more people tried and loved it, the drink became popular worldwide. Most people call it their comfort drink for its soothing effect.

What does strawberry milk tea taste like

Strawberry milk tea is truly like an art to describe. In the first sip, you’ll encounter the rich creamy, and velvety milk texture on your tongue. It will remind you of your childhood self drinking a creamy milkshake while watching your favorite toons. Then, strawberries join the league and add freshness and sweetness to your mouth.

The presence of chewy tapioca balls is like a bit of surprise that makes each sip fun and exciting. Being neutral in taste, they take on the drink’s flavor and make it more delightful.

Next comes the tea, which adds a sense of coziness and comfort to the drink. It is neither too strong nor too light. You’ll feel the taste lingering in the background that perfectly balances the sweetness of strawberry syrup.

Personally, I wouldn’t say I like overly creamy or heavy drinks, so strawberry milk tea keeps me light and refreshing. As it doesn’t contain too much milk, it is creamy but in moderation.

Variations

If you want to make strawberry milk tea differently, here are some inspirations for you.

Strawberry Matcha Boba Tea

Add a spoonful of matcha powder over your steeped tea to make a refreshing matcha strawberry boba tea. Stir it well and blend with other ingredients.

Strawberry Basil Sweet Tea

Soak basil leaves in green tea during brewing to impart a unique herbal twist to complement the classic strawberry taste. Steeping lavender buds or mint leaves into the tea can also greatly vary.

Chocolate Strawberry Bubble Tea

Add a spoonful of chocolate powder to the milk before mixing it with brewed tea to impart a rich chocolate flavor. Instead, you can add melted choco chips into the milk to create a tempting beverage that will satisfy both fruit and chocolate lovers alike.

Health Benefits

Strawberry milk tea might offer incredible health benefits; however, it is always better to consume it in moderation. Strawberries are rich in vitamin C, which strengthens your immune system. They are also a great source of dietary fiber, which improves digestion. Thanks to green tea, our drink contains tons of antioxidants that detoxify your body and reduce the risk of several conditions like stroke or heart disease.

Remember that strawberry milk tea contains added sugars that, on excessive consumption, can contribute to tooth decay and weight gain. Boba pearls are high in calories, which you might not like about them.

Ingredients Breakdown

Strawberry milk tea has simple ingredients, including milk, tea, strawberries, and tapioca pearls. You’ll need ice and sugar to froth it off and get it chilled. Let’s see how those ingredients contribute to the beverage.

Strawberries

Strawberries are obviously the star ingredient of milk tea. They are sweet, juicy and loaded with vitamins and antioxidants. You can use both fresh and frozen strawberries for making milk tea.

Milk

The creamy consistency of the drink comes from the dairy you use. You can use dairy and non-dairy alternatives like oat, soy, coconut milk, and almond milk.

Tea

Typically, black and green tea is used in making strawberry milk tea. However, you can also try herbal teas like jasmine, hibiscus or chamomile. Every tea will impart a unique taste and aroma to the tea. You can even use strawberry tea for an extra strawberry kick.

Tapioca Pearls (optional)

These gummy spheres add an element of fun to the tea. However, pre-boiled boba pearls will save you so much effort whenever you make strawberry milk tea. Boil them in water and let them cool before storing them in the fridge in an airtight container, as they stay fresh only for a few hours after boiling.

Sweetener

Usually, we use granulated sugar to prepare strawberry syrup to sweeten or flavor the drink. You can also use alternatives such as brown sugar, coconut sugar, maple syrup, and cane sugar based on your preferences.
